Multinational Transportation Company
RL Canning accelerated a multisite network refresh by taking full ownership of the end-to-end deployment, completing the project months ahead of schedule while freeing internal IT to focus on strategic initiatives.
Opportunity
After many years of providing consulting and engineering support to a large multinational organization in the transportation sector, we were engaged to assist with a multisite network device refresh for their networking infrastructure.
This was a critical project the internal IT team needed to execute. The team was already at capacity with their current workload of projects, daily operational work, and IT support. The coordination and management of a large-scale, multisite deployment posed significant challenges in planning, forecasting, and logistics.
Our initial role was limited to providing additional consulting and on-site dispatch for equipment installation. However, as the project evolved, our involvement expanded to full ownership of the end-to-end deployment. The scope included procurement and configuration to engineering, project management, and coordination of dispatch to sites. We were responsible for ensuring the equipment was on-site when needed, the technicians arrived on time, and the network SMEs were engaged.
Solution
We leveraged our partnership with Fortinet to procure the necessary equipment. Our earlier consulting and engineering work had included setting up FortiManager and automated provisioning within the client’s environment. This resulted in a streamline configuration at scale across routers, switches, and access points for all sites.
Once entrusted with full deployment, we introduced a full project management service to oversee planning, site coordination, equipment logistics, and dispatch services. This structured project management approach ensured that deployments across all sites were executed both efficiently and effectively. Enhanced project collaboration further strengthened the robust partnership between the two companies.
Results
Through our expertise and structured delivery, we were able to complete the entire device refresh several months ahead of schedule.
In addition to accelerating the timeline, this approach:
- Freed up the client’s internal IT team to focus on their own projects and operational backlog.
- Increased efficiency, reducing overall time commitments for the client allowing their network SMEs to focus on other high priority work.
- Enabled the organization to pull forward other strategic initiatives originally planned for 2026, creating additional business value.
The partnership and trust established with this customer enabled a seamless, large-scale upgrade of their networking infrastructure. By allowing RL Canning to take ownership of the end-to-end deployment process, the client accelerated completion by several months, freed up IT resources to focus on strategic initiatives, and increased operational efficiency, paving the way for further business growth
